“What is going on?” Gwen asked, they both looked apprehensive, Cad was glad that they were as clueless as him. Cad stared at the stranger in the corner. She was thin, almost sickly looking, she wore a tight tunic that didn’t help with her thin looking figure.

“The castle is under attack, the chosen one has been revealed.” Skorn said simply. No one moved or spoke for a while. As though expecting Skorn to follow up.

“Chosen for what?” Dyne asked. Not trying to hide his annoyance at the situation.

“The end days. The shadow prophecy.”

“The shadow bloody prophecy. What nonsense is this?” Dyne said in anger.

“I am a brother of the Shadowclan.” Skorn said simply, “So is Faendal.” He said gesturing to the sickly-looking woman.

“The Shadowclan are real then,” Gwen said, nodding her head. “I always wondered if it was more than just a legend.”

“And what makes you think Cad is the chosen one?” Dyne asked.

“He has seen Argona. He has had the vision.” Cad stepped into the circle, fed up with everyone talking about him and not to him.

“What are you all talking about?” Cad shouted, he was embarrassed, he had not meant to shout, he continued speaking quieter than he should have. “Shadowclan? Shadow prophecy? What is all that? And who the hell is Argona?” Cad asked. Skorn kneeled to address him.

“The Shadowclan used to be a large group many centuries ago. Our number has dwindled, and there’s even fewer left that I can trust. We have been keepers of the Shadow prophecy. A telling of a future where darkness will rise, and only the chosen one can defeat it. The prophecy has no ending, so we do not know if darkness will win. Only that you will be the one to fight it. The chosen one will be revealed when they see one of the sisters of fate. They control how the world works, the actions we take and basically everything that happens. When we were in the cells together, you told me of a vision of a woman, outside the barrier of Arcadia. Just before you got through?” Cad nodded, “With that description you gave me, the pink hair, the mysteriousness of it all, it must be Argona.”

“You didn’t tell me you saw her?” Gwen said to Cad sharply.

“I uh... Didn’t want you to think that I was crazy.” Cad responded, “I wasn’t even sure if what I saw was real, let alone her being a sister of fate. So basically, they control everything that I do? Everywhere I go?” Cad asked, frustrated by the idea of him being controlled.

“In a way, yes.” Replied Skorn. Cad’s heart sank, just when he thought he was free to do whatever he wanted he was once again being controlled, first his family and Arcadia, next the king. Now this. He wondered if he would ever be free to do what he wanted. “You must take him to the Mistpeak Mountains.” He spoke to the others in the room, “to the World’s Eye.
